The new BONIFANTES Boys’ Choir hit Pardubice like a bolt from the blue. Within the space of one year, a choir numbering some 200 boys had been successfully put together. Talent tests were undertaken in all the primary schools in Pardubice in September and October 1999 in order to select the boys for the choir and the first working meetings took place in October and November of the same year. These meetings were attended by 256 boys from primary 1 to primary 5, all selected from more than 6500 children in Pardubice. The new boys’ choir was then presented in Pardubice in its premiere concert in February 2000.
The choirmasters succeeded in capturing the whole of Pardubice in terms of boys choir singing. Up to 50 new singers join the BONIFANTES Boys’ Choir every year.
THE PREPARATION DEPARTMENT SYSTEM
One of the fundamental pillars of success is the system of preparation departments which the boys must pass through before they can become a member of the concert choir. Every year, boys are chosen from a total of more than 8000 children in Pardubice. We begin working with singers from the age of 4 in our nursery departments. The most talented boys in the tests break through into the secrets of music, learn plenty of wonderful songs, and gradually embrace the basics of voice training, intonation, and the theory of music. What is more, they boys are able to experience the unmistakable atmosphere of an outstanding group of boys. It is only at the end of primary three that the boys move on to the concert department of the BONIFANTES Boys’ Choir.
